CABINETS
The outside of your cabinets receive just as much abuse as the rest of your kitchen. Combat this by using dish soap to clean off splattered oil or other grime from cabinet surfaces, knobs, corners and inside edges. Simply turn the dish soap into a soapy water that you can dip a rag into to wipe cabinets down.
FRIDGE
Usually, we wipe down the fridge or clean out old leftovers and expired foods but your fridge has many components that need to be addressed to keep it in great shape. Take a look at our Pro Tips For A Sparkling Fridge to find out just how to keep things fresh in the new year!
WINDOWS
It may be part of your weekly routine to get the inside of your windows but what about the outside? Or how about glass doors? To clean both inside and out, avoid using window cleaners containing ammonia and isopropyl alchohol because these are known lung irritants. Use a plant-derived or eco-friendly cleaning agent on your glass, frame, ledge and locks. Spray the cleaner directly on your clean rag and always wipe top to bottom in a “Z” shape.
For sticky spots that won’t seem to budge, rub a little mayonnaise on it and scrape with a plastic spatula. Take care to never rub metal on your windows – that’s how you scratch them!
BEDS
For bedding, wash blankets, pillows, etc. on delicate with cold water using eco-friendly, bio detergent. Use an extra rinse cycle to make sure you got out all detergent. Dry everything on a low setting and use CLEAN or BRAND NEW tennis balls to fluff it all back up again.
Your mattress could use a nice cleaning every now and again. Sprinkle baking soda on your mattress and let it sit for at least an hour. Take your vacuum attachment and suck all of the baking soda up. You can even repeat if needed or add a couple of drops of essential oil to the baking soda you are sprinkling.
CARPET
Carpet can be wonderful to walk or sit on but it’s guilty of trapping dust, dirt, allergens, dander and other general grime. To freshen and deodorize, sprinkle baking soda all over your carpet and let it set. When it comes to carpet application, the longer you leave the baking soda on, the better. Vacuum it up when finished and repeat if you feel it’s necessary.
WASHING MACHINE
Another hard working appliance in your daily life is the washing machine. Often taken for granted, folks assume that by doing its job, it’s naturally clean. This isn’t the case. Mineral deposits and detergent build up so you need to add 2 cups of vinegar to the empty drum and 1 cup of baking soda where you would add laundry detergent. Let the machine run on the longest cold cycle you have and, when finished, use an all-purpose cleaner to wipe the rim of your tub as well as the rubber around the door or under the lid.
