With Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Winter Solstice, Las Posadas, Diwali and Chinese New Year right around the corner, you should always be prepared for holiday house guests. Even if you aren’t planning on hosting loved ones, you should be ready for last minute overnight guests. By having your guest bedroom ready and waiting for anything, you can rest easy knowing that you were prepared and that your guests are comfortable.
The most important aspect in your guest space is the bed. Make sure to change the sheets and bedding before any gatherings so you have a clean, fresh space available. Always wash your bedding separately from clothing or towels so they can be cleaned properly and smell fresh. You may want to clean your duvet covers and blankets as well.
Whether or not you use your guest bedroom throughout the year, make sure you vacuum and dust thoroughly. Dust and grime can gather through lack of use so you want to create a homey vibe by eliminating these culprits. You can even add a few houseplants or flowers (if you know your guests are not allergic to such things) to brighten up the space and create a more lived-in feel. In this day and age, it may not be a bad idea to leave a few different phone chargers on the nightstand to accommodate last minute guests who need to add some juice to their devices.
Clear out some space in the guest bedroom closet or free up a few drawers so anyone that may stay a few days can hang up or store clothes and not have to live out of their suitcase. This is ideal for those situations where dress clothes shouldn’t be wrinkled and need to be hung.
Follow these few simple steps and create an atmosphere in which guests will not only feel comfortable but welcomed. Then you can reduce the stress of having to prepare space for anyone needing to spend the night and get back to enjoying your celebration!
