With how easy it is to transmit the novel coronavirus, it is more important than ever to properly clean and disinfect your living space. The Center For Disease Control recommends doing a daily deep clean of high touch spaces if you have visitors or anyone has gone outside of the home in order to reduce the risk of coronavirus being introduced into your quarantine space.
Covid-19 can actually live on most surfaces for a span of 3 days or more so it is crucial to both clean and disinfect often (yes, cleaning and disinfecting ARE two different things).
Even if nobody in your house is sick, it’s still important to maintain as sterile an environment as possible. It’s an easy process:
Cleaning – This is the act of removing contaminants from a surface. Using soapy water, or cleaning spray, and a hand towel, wipe surfaces down.
Disinfecting – This is the process of killing pathogens. To do this, use a disinfectant wipe or disinfectant spray that is suitable for the surface you are using it on. Lysol, Clorox or store brand disinfectant sprays and/or wipes will work – just make sure it says it’s a disinfectant on the package. Hydrogen Peroxide and Isopropyl Alcohol will also work.
You’ll want to hit the areas that you use most often. Think about what you and your family use daily – toilet handles, doorknobs, light switches, tables, counters, backs of dining room chairs, game controllers, remotes, computers and mouses, stove, fridge handles, cabinet handles, etc. The CDC recommends a daily clean and disinfect of these areas – especially if outside goods have come into your home, someone has visited or a member of your quarantine party has left and returned from work or errands.
