Open Those Windows After Post Construction To Create An Airflow That Pulls Out Dust, Harmful Chemical Smells And Plaster Odors – Even In The Winter!
While a remodel or new construction may bring an exciting improvement to your home or office, the clean up is far less appealing. With all of that work comes a heap of dust and other contaminants that lurk around long after the crew leaves. Here are a couple of quick tips to minimize the chaos.
One of the most important things you can do is to open up the windows in and near the work area. This creates the airflow necessary to pull out hidden dust and vent any harmful chemical fumes or new plaster and wood odors. It’s always a great idea to air your home out after work being done, heavy cooking or any instance in which fumes have accumulated. Even in the winter, pop those windows open for an hour or so!
Sweep the floors first. It may be tempting to do surfaces but sweeping actually causes dust to settle on surfaces so you can wipe it up easier. Next, attack every single surface and crevice in the work area with a microfiber cloth. Traditional dusters or old rags will not grab the particles as well as a microfiber cloth. When we say EVERY surface, we mean it. Swipe in between blinds, tops of door frames, shelves, etc.
Give the dust time to rest – a half an hour at least – and then begin disinfecting and sanitizing counter tops and other surfaces. If you have carpet, vacuum but go slowly so you get it all and don’t throw dust back into the air. You can even use the vacuum tools to hit corners or hard to reach areas.
Remember to work slowly and be patient with post construction clean up. You may not realize how insidious dust can be but it’s often stubborn and hides extremely well. For a more in-depth cleaning process post-construction or if you simply do not have the time to devote to it, consider hiring a professional cleaning company. Not only will they have the expertise to handle this kind of clean up, they will have the right eco-friendly equipment and techniques to obliterate dust, fumes and contaminants from the area.
