Covid Thanksgiving Cleaning Tips

For A Safer Thanksgiving During The Covid Pandemic, Use Disposable Tablecloths, Plates And Utensils, Open Windows For Better Ventilation And Disinfect Surfaces Immediately After The Meal!

The Center for Disease Control has updated their guidelines on Thanksgiving celebrations during the Covid-19 pandemic.  Whether you plan on a larger gathering or opt for a more intimate arrangement with immediate family is completely up to you and your comfort level.

If you DO choose to have family over for the holiday, here are a few ways you can keep the risk of spreading the virus low and improve safety for all…

  • Check local, state and federal guidelines to make sure you are not violating any temporary rules that could have police or health officials interrupting your festivities.
  • Try to host it in a larger space.  The idea is to allow ample seating to accommodate separate household units being six feet apart from each other.
  • Open up the windows!  The virus has a better chance of spreading in tight, confined airspace so get some ventilation working to your advantage by opening up the windows this Thanksgiving.
  • Use disposable EVERYTHING.  Plates, napkins, silverware, tablecloths… keep everyone safe by getting rid of potential contamination quickly.
  • Clean (you can use soap and water) and then use a disinfectant (read the label) on frequently touched surfaces, especially after everyone has eaten.
  • Put bottles of hand sanitizer, some gloves and masks out at several different places throughout the entertaining area so guests can stay safe and practice good virus hygiene.
  • After guests leave, clean and disinfect all surfaces and rooms used.  Pay close attention to bathrooms and dining areas.

With a little caution and diligence, there is no reason you can’t enjoy the holidays and stay safe.  The CDC also recommends getting a flu shot prior to the holiday and hosting dinner outdoors, where possible.  You can even avoid risk altogether by having a virtual Thanksgiving meal with other households.
