December is a festive time full of family and friends gathering to make merry. The holidays often have us opening our homes and our hearts to out-of-town guests or reconnecting with friends who are busy throughout the year. One of the best ways to get everyone at one celebration is to host a dinner party. You may already have know How To Clean The Bathroom Swiftly For Parties and have created the perfect winter wonderland theme but are you all set on dinner party prep?
Clean Your Table – This may seem fairly obvious but remove everything from your dining room table and give it a good scrubbing and a quick polish, even if you are planning on using a table cloth.
Plan and Set – Wash any linens, dinnerware, glasses or silverware you are planning on using for the party. If using silver, you may want to polish it. Set the table the night before to reduce your “day of” stress. Lay down your runners/tablecloth, napkins and all place settings.
Table Cloths – Some folks loathe table cloths but you may want to seriously consider this option. It will make your post-party clean up go quickly so you can get back to enjoying the season. Table cloths prevent food and drink from accumulating in grooves or cracks and are easy to manage. Simply shake them out and toss them into your washing machine.
Finishing Touches – Once your table is set, consider adding some seasonal decor. Candles, fresh pine, ornaments, floral decor, etc. can be spread around the table in whatever fashion you’d like to create a more visually appealing space for guests. Sometimes a little decor can create more excitement about the event or upcoming holiday.
Emergency Kit – Stock up on salt, club soda and lemon prior to your party. These items work wonders on breaking up stains. If something breaks or spills during your event, simply whip out one of these ingredients and treat the area. Do a quick treat and move on. The last thing you want to do is disrupt the party by pulling out your vacuum or getting on your hands and knees to scrub at stains. Not only does it throw off the party vibe but it can make the person who is responsible for the accident feel even worse. You can deep clean the area again later when all of your guests have gone or retired for the evening.
Trash Ready – Set up a few different trash cans around the party space. Not only does this reduce the sight of one can overflowing but it encourages guests to toss out their refuse instead of leaving for you to tackle later. Many times party guests want to throw their items away but have a hard time locating the right place to do so. Also, keep a few extra bags at the bottom of each bin so when you take that bag out you can quickly have a new one set up.
Soak Zone – A great way to reduce your work after the party is to create a soak zone. Have a few dish bins filled with soapy water in an out-of-the-way section of your kitchen. This way guests can put their dirty plates, silverware and glasses in soapy water and give it time to break up stuck on food or stains. After the party, all you have to do is take them out of the bin and put them in your dishwasher or give them a quick hand wash if necessary.
Dinner parties can be a ton of fun and can really amp up your feelings about the holidays but the amount of clean up afterwards can be near overwhelming. By planning ahead you can cut down on the time it takes to get your home back in order. You can even eliminate after-party clean up altogether by hiring a local cleaning service and having them do either just the dinner scene or your entire house so you can begin your week with a clean slate. No matter what you decide, clean less and get back to enjoying all of the hot cocoa, charming movies and eye-catching decor of this merry season!
