Pets are an absolute joy to have as companions on this journey through life but they can leave your carpet and home furnishings looking a little worse for wear. If your animal is prone to shedding, you could be looking at every soft surfaces of your home being absolutely covered in hair. Sometimes it can seem near impossible to remove your furry friend’s deposits but there are a few sure-fire ways to clean up that pet hair without breaking a sweat!
As the main tip suggests, using a set of damp rubber gloves will certainly do the trick. The texture of the gloves churns the pet hair off of your furnishings while the water acts as an adhesive to keep it attached to the glove. Running them along your carpets, curtains, couches, chairs, bedspreads and pet beds can really get up unwanted hair fast. You can also use a pumice stone, scrub sponge, the rough side of Velcro and even a plastic hair curler to accomplish the same effect. Even just running your wet hands over a surface can pick up strays.
It can be especially hard to remove pet fur from thick carpeting so, after you vacuum, you can run a rubber squeegee over the carpeting. This will get so much of the hair up that you’ll wonder if you even vacuumed at all. For hardwood floors, attach a dryer sheet to a Swiffer and you’ll be amazed at how much miscellaneous hair it can collect. You can even run a dryer sheet over couch cushions, curtains, etc. to achieve this effect on furnishings.
Another highly effective trick is to wrap duct tape or gorilla tape around a paint or lint roller and run it over surfaces. Not only does this save you on blowing through your lint roller tape but it can sometimes work better due to the strength of the adhesive on this kind of tape.
Another problem with pet hair is that it usually ends up covering your clothes and can be extremely visible on darker hues. The best way to remove them is to throw the clothes into your dryer for ten minutes. Make sure it’s on the tumble or fluff setting with NO heat and you’ll loosen all the pet hair prior to washing. Just remember to clean out the lint trap afterwards!
