Cleaning Tip 22

One Of The Dirtiest Areas In An Office Is Your Keyboard. Clean It With Isopropyl Alcohol, A Toothbrush, Duster Or Cloth!

Your office keyboard is a breeding ground for bacteria, dust and other contaminants.  Whether its food, spills or common use, there’s a lot that can happen to your trusty go-to.  Here’s a few quick tips to keep those keys clean!

  • To remove dust, take a cloth, duster, toothbrush or can of compressed air and spray in between the keys.  Spray or scrub as much of the gaps as possible.
  • Remove the keys on a keyboard in order to reach food, dust, or spills that may have gotten underneath them and can impair function.  Most keyboards today have detachable keys.  Place a thin tool beneath the edge of a key and GENTLY pry upwards.  Repeat this step for each key you need to remove.
  • For spills – turn the keyboard upside down and drain any excess liquid, preferably over a sink or garbage can.  Remove the keys and either scrub them clean or submerge them in warm water.  Remove them from water and let them dry.  Use alcohol wipes or gently scrub keyboard with isopropyl alcohol before returning keys to board.
  • For food stuck in keys or to simply make sure the keyboard is germ free, remove keys and wipe everything down with alcohol wipes or isopropyl alcohol on a cloth.
  • NEVER pour isopropyl alcohol directly on your keyboard.  Moisten a cloth and gently scrub with that.
  • Always unplug your keyboard before cleaning.

No matter what is happening on your keyboard – use these tips to keep it germ free and eliminate major grossness in the workplace!
